The Gift of Hope started with words of "hope" spoken by an Arlington High School graduate, while talking with her guidance counselor, Mr. Marc Provost. The student stated that she hoped to still be able to attend college. She was worried she would be unable to afford it. Her mother had passed away within the last month of the conversation, and along with going through a lot of psychological stress, her family's financial situation only worsened. Her words inspired Mr. Provost with an idea to try to help the student achieve her goal. He decided to establish a fundraising program for her, and other students headed for higher-level education (i.e. college), with the financial burdens caused by the tragic loss of a parent or guardian. With the help of the student, her best friend, and other students of the same unfortunate circumstances, Mr. Provost spread the word of the new fund.
Even with its establishment near the end of the school year, the Gift of Hope was fortunate enough to receive generous donations. Much was from the students and staff of Arlington High School, but a considerable portion also came from generous and sympathetic companies and families. In addition to donations, fundraisers were held. For example, significant funds were raised during the Arlington High School's Senior Barbecue through the selling of raffle tickets.
To date, we founders of the Gift of Hope have done much to further help our fellow students in these unfortunate circumstances. Our goal is to give Hope to those who, like these students, feared they may have lost a hope of achieving their own goals in life.
On a final note, we would like to thank everyone who has contributed and/or donated to this foundation. It is people like you who make this organization possible and give hope to those who have suffered an already tragic loss. You have our gratitude.
